Study Group “Mediterranean Music Studies”
Mission Statement
During the symposium “Musicians in the Mediterranean: Narratives of Movement” held in Naples, Italy, from June 21 to 25, 2016, a new IMS Study Group was founded dedicated to “Mediterranean Music Studies.” The symposium was the first jointly organized event by the already established ICTM Study Group “Mediterranean Music Studies” and the IMS. Hosted by the Università l’Orientale and the Conservatorio San Pietro a Majella of Naples, in collaboration with the International Association for Mediterranean and Oriental Studies (ISMEO), the symposium was organized by a program committee including Alessandra Ciucci and Salvatore Morra (ICTM), Adriano Rossi (ISMEO), and co-chaired by the ICTM Study Group Chair Ruth Davis (Cambridge) and by Dinko Fabris (Naples). The successful event, involving eighty participants from twenty countries, is described in deep in Davis’ review printed in the Bulletin of the ICTM 132 (2016): 33–35 (click here to view it online).
