The IMS Study Group “Music and Cultural Studies” and the Friends of Music Society Athens announce an interdisciplinary conference, “Musicology and Music Librarianship in Cultural Context in Honour of Stephanie Merakos.”
Extraordinary IMS General Assembly
On 4 November 2024, all IMS members were invited to an Extraordinary General Assembly (EGA), which will be held online on 11 February 2025, 15:00 UTC. The IMS Directorium calls it for one reason:
- changes to paragraphs 1 and 15 of the IMS Statutes as proposed by the IMS Bureau according to paragraph 9 of the current IMS Statutes.
The modifications are necessary for the IMS to meet the requirements of a non-profit organization in the Canton Basel-Stadt (CH), the legal seat of the IMS. Only non-profit organizations are tax-exempt. The revision does not affect the governance, decision-taking, or the distribution of responsibilities within the IMS. If the request for revision of the IMS Statutes is successful, the amended IMS Statutes will come into force immediately.
There is no obligation to participate but we encourage members in good standing to join the EGA on February 11 in order to be able to vote.

The IMS Study Group “Music and Cultural Studies” will hold the Baltic musicological conference, “Music History Beyond State Borders: Micro-, Meso-, and Macro-Regionality of Musical Culture,” in Vilnius (LT) from 29 to 31 October 2024.
Meeting of the IMS Study Group “Mediterranean Music Studies”
The IMS Study Group “Mediterranean Music Studies” will hold its third meeting in Elche (Alicante) during the IX Congress of the Sociedad Española de Musicología in a wide international context. The call for papers will be circulated later this year.

ARLAC VI: In Memoriam Juan Francisco Sans (1960–2022)
The IMS Regional Association for Latin America and the Caribbean (ARLAC) will hold its sixth conference, “In Memory of Juan Francisco Sans (1960–2022),” in Mexico City (MX) from 7 to 10 August 2024.
IMS members are entitled to a reduced registration fee rate.
Cantus Planus 40: Anniversary Conference
Quadraginta annis! In 2024, it is forty years since the IMS Study Group “Cantus Planus” was founded in Veszprém (Hungary) by a distinguished group of plainchant scholars.
Meeting of the IMS Study Group “Mediterranean Music Studies”
The IMS Study Group “Mediterranean Music Studies” will hold its second meeting in Valencia (ES) from July 11 to 13, during the III International Conference AVAMUS, “Music in the Mediterranean: West and East, Traditions and Modernities.” The call for papers is open until May 8, 2024. The dates were conveniently chosen immediately after the MedRen Conference to be held in Granada from July 6 to 9.
40th Anniversary of IMLA
The Istituto per lo Studio della Musica Latinoamericana (IMLA), which coordinates the IMS Study Group “Italo-Ibero-American Relationships” (RIIA), is organizing an international conference to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of IMLA. The conference will take place in Rome (IT) from 7 to 8 June 2024, and will be streamed on IMLA’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/IMLAofficial.
Music, Media, and Narrative in the Streaming Age
In 2024 the IMS Study Group “Music and Media” will organize its 15th annual conference, this time jointly with the Kieler Gesellschaft für Filmmusikforschung. The gathering will take place at the University of Music and Theatre Munich and will focus on “Music, Media, and Narrative in the Streaming Age.”
Conference of the IMS Study Group “Mediterranean Music Studies”
The IMS Study Group “Mediterranean Music Studies” will hold an international conference in Valletta (MT) from 26 to 27 April 2024, in collaboration with the University of Malta and the Italian Cultural Institute of Valletta. The conference will pick up on the meeting in Athens with the same title, “The Circulation of Opera and Operatic Companies around the Mediterranean Theaters: Part II.” Scholars interested to participate can send an email to: giuseppe.sanfratello@unict.it.
